Land of our birth we pledge to thee.....
My home town of Troon, in Ayrshire, Scotland, is well known to golfers the world over, but I have to confess I've never played a game of golf in my life. I left Scotland some 30 years ago and now live in Chilliwack, British Columbia. I would love to hear from anyone back home, particularly those who attended Marr College 1949-1954.
Marr College - Old Acquaintance
A number of people from Troon
have found this web page and have made contact. As a result, we
have put together a page where former pupils of Marr College may
leave their e-mail address or browse the list of those who are on
the Internet and would like to renew auld acquaintance. Follow
this link to the Troon page.
Genealogy
On of my principal pursuits
over the last several years is trying to trace not only my
ancestors but my many "cousins" around the world who
are descended from my great-grandparents, Jacob and Mary Mitchell.
It is now clear that my MITCHELL ancestors used to bear the
surname MITCHELSON. Why it was changed to Mitchell remains a
mystery.
Great-grandfather JACOB MITCHELSON (1813-1886) had at least 10 children. Three of them immigrated from Scotland to New Zealand in the 1860's while the remainder chose to stay in Bonnie Scotland - at least for a time! If your surname (or an ancestor's) is AITCHISON, BENNETT, CHAMBERS, COOMBES, CROSBIE, FEATHERS, FERGUSSON, GREEN, GUNN, HAM, KEARNS, KELLY, LAMBETH, LINDSAY, MacDOUGALL, McGLASHAN, McNAB, MELDRUM, MITCHELL, MITCHELSON, MONTEATH, MUIR, NIMMO, PHINN, QUINN, RUFFELL, SWEETMAN, TONKIN, UPSON, WATSON or WINTER (and many others), you may find it interesting to
