...and for this I gave up dancing?
I've been drawing and painting professionally since 1996. First it was during the off-hours of my day job in a library wholesaler. As time passed however, I was taking more and more time off of work to draw until finally I quit my day job altogether in the summer of 1999. Most of my work is for the role-playing game industry, although I have done book covers and film production work.
The Cthulhu Connection
My band, The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, really led to my introduction to professional illustration. The boys at Pagan Publishing, a relatively young publisher of Lovecraft-related books, were interested in selling our tapes through their mail order service. I let them know that I could draw, and soon I was a regular in their books and magazine The Unspeakable Oath. They gave me something to put on my resume and their high quality publications gave me some clout with other publishers like Chaosium and Atlas Games.
Tales From The Astounding Future
The year 2000 was a great year for role-playing games, as Wizards of the Coast, publisher of the legendary Dungeons & Dragons, introduced the Open Gaming License, which basically states that anyone and their blink dog can publish D&D books. Thanks to this there is no shortage of work for a freelance illustrator like myself. Currently I've gone from just illustrating to doing some creative writing. Green Ronin, esteemed publisher and patron of the Toren arts, will be publishing Spaceship Zero: The Role-Playing Game, my first foray into professional writing. I suspect the writing may continue and I'm in a perpetual state of unspeakable arousal from being involved in Green Ronin's superb line of books, which shows no sign of letting up in 2002.
